John Jones of folk rock legends  Oysterband will be walking with his group the Reluctant Ramblers across the Spine of England, in and around the Peak District, this May and playing a number of shows en route. The tour will take in some of the most iconic walking destinations in the country, such as Derbyshire’s Kinder Scout, the Hope Valley, and Saddleworth Moor. Joining John along the way will be a changing company of well-known folk musicians and friends, and John will also be accompanied by some excellent young folk and acoustic musicians local to various areas. The Rutland Arms will be the penultimate show on the tour in the function room and The Fishpond will be the final showcase of the tour in the ballroom.

You can walk with John from Bakewell to Matlock Bath on May 26th...

John also invites you to join for as little or as much of the walking tour as you would like. The route has been carefully constructed to include walks of varying lengths from a couple of hours upwards.
Day nine and the last walk of the tour. Gathering outside the Rutland Arms we head southwest via the high school and kennels to make our way to Over Hadden where we cross the River Lathkill. Thus the pattern is set as we immediately climb out of the valley and over a ridge towards Middleton. Just short of the village we pick up the Limestone Way and repeat the pattern this time crossing the River Bradford and following its side east passing by Youlgreave. We aren’t planning a stop at this point but the villages is just over the river so there may be time for a short break. From Youlgrave we carry on along the Limestone Trail and a string of antiquities near Hartshill Moor Farm before dropping down still in a south eastern direction to Winster and a lunch stop at the Miners Standard (TBC). After lunch we rejoin the Limestone way heading steadily south and east via Upper Town and Bonsall, its just beyond there we part company with the Limestone Way preferring to gain the higher ground beneath Masson Hill and its trigpoint before heading northeast to Masson Lees Farm and cutting back around the hill side above the Heights of Abraham and dropping steeply down the hillside into the centre of Matlock Bath and the venue of the final gig of the walking tour.
